Rammed Earth and Bamboo

We have finished the first two story bamboo and rammed earth structure of Naryan Archarya and Naomi Saville in Kathmandu. Much kudos to Naryan dai who has relentlessly worked to promote this material despite certain skepticism in the beginning. In the process he has trained his community members from Jumla and added tools for construction. The primary goal intention of the couple was to build a home that was to provide modern comfort in natural environment with emphasis on thermal comfort and seismic resistance.   The materials for the rammed earth are literally procured from the site and bamboo brought from 200 km. Timber is salvaged from an old building.
